I used to post my thoughts on here when I was a minister. Now that I can put the title "former" before me I have the freedom to say some of the things that I really would like to say. Here is my first thought being a former minister.
Many people think that ministry or organized religion should not be thought of as a business. But in all actuality most of the churches I have belonged to don't really see the "church" as what I believe Jesus meant it to be. They treat it like a business. Jesus, in my opinion, would be angry to what some churches have become. Jesus created the church to grow with Him and to worship with other "like minded" Christians.
I wonder if Jesus paid a visit to your church what would he think? Would he think we are so wrapped up in political politics that he would overturn the tables in your church like he did in his day?
Would he feel the love and fellowship that he really intended to have happen at a church or would he sit by himself and no one speak to him. (Which happens at many churches) I have experienced it and so has my family.
Is the pastor of your church only interested in his or her only agenda and really could care less about the congregation? (I have seen this a time or two)
People its time we wake up and fight against the things that Jesus warned about in scripture.
Male sure and hold your staff and pastor accountable for their actions. Don't give in to the secular world about making the church a business but make it a "true" house of worship where love is shown by all, learning can be had by all and Jesus is at the front of everything that goes on at the church and that includes its financial decisions. This also means that we learn what it means to be "Joyful givers". If this was the case we would all be blessed and Jesus' church would never be in financial trouble.
If you see a new person in church make them feel welcome. Sit with them and talk with them, get to know them you might make a new friend.
Finally to all my former collegues, remember why you are there and the reason for your calling. I lost the purpose of my calling and therefore got out. If you have lost your reason for the calling, maybe its time for you to revisit your calling.
This might make a few people angry but really I don't care anymore. My first love is Jesus and I care about his church and his people!!!
